Getting Started







Getting Started with Government Contracting - Below are the basic requirements/steps to help your business get started contracting with the government. As you work through these steps, please feel free to call us with any questions at 916.334.9388. We can help you with all aspects of government contracting.

 

1. Make sure you have a Business Plan
  Need help? Contact a SBDC, SCORE, or
SBA: http://www.sba.gov/starting_business/index.html
     
2. Get your DUNS Number
  Call 1-866-705-5711 for your free DUNS Number.
     
3. Research Your NAICs and SIC Codes
  a. NAICS/SIC Cross Reference: http://www.census.gov/epcd/naics02/naico602.htm
  b. NAICS/SIC Codes Size Standards: http://www.sba.gov/size/indextableofsize.html
     
4. Set up Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT)
  Contact your bank to set this up. You'll need this information for your CCR registration (see "Financial Information" section of the CCR Handbook.)
     
5. Register your company in the Central Contractor's Registration (CCR):
  http://www.ccr.gov/ (We recommend you print out the CCR Handbook)
Assign your o
wn Marketing Partner ID Number (MPIN) in the CCR Registration.
6. Complete your Online Representations and Certifications Application (ORCA)
  http://orca.bpn.gov/ (Click on “Help” for the handbook.)
   
7. Federal Requirement for All Vendors - As of October 1, 2003
Veterans Employment and Training Service Report (VETS-100)
  http://www.vets100.com (You can register online by linking to the VETS-100 user login page: http://www.vets100.com/vets100login.htm. Scroll to the bottom of this VETS-100 user login page and click on "Need Company Number" to register for your company number.)
   
8. Apply for Certifications
  a. Small Business Administration (SBA) Programs - For help with the SBA programs, register for one of our free Upcoming Classes
    i. Small Disadvantaged Business (SDB) Program: http://www.sba.gov/sdb/
