Client Wins $150,000 in Government Contracts

search pros staffing

When you first meet the owners of SearchPros Staffing, you’re immediately attracted to their enthusiasm. In their view, anything “new” is an interesting challenge that they want to master. Heather Kocina, Rayna Pearson, and Myla Ramos started SearchPros after years of experience in the staffing business working for others. They felt sure that they could do it better, and within a short time were providing services to a variety of companies. They learned that public agencies might also need their services, and signed up for their first class with The Federal Technology Center (The FTC), “Responding to

RFPs”. They quickly followed up by scheduling several appointments to review all the necessary prerequisites for earning federal and state contracts, with Pearson and Ramos taking the lead for public contracts.

At the same time, they also began reviewing solicitations that were being released in the public sector. They met with The FTC counselor and ensured that they understood every facet of the requirements and
took advantage of our proposal review service. They also attended small business outreach events hosted by The FTC with Sacramento Regional Transit District and Sacramento Municipal Utility District, respectively, to meet buyers and learn more about how to do business with those agencies. Ramos says that their success and growth has also created challenges for them. “We have doubled our team and tripled our billing in the past year. However, growth is stretching our resources. More people in the office make it more of a challenge to maintain the team environment we believe is so important. The FTC was instrumental in helping us complete various government certifications,” says Ramos. “They also assisted us in all the RFPs we have pursued with government. We actually won a key government contract that has helped build our reputation in the marketplace and become a significant percentage of our billable hours. My advice to other small businesses is, to paraphrase an old Chinese proverb: ‘A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.’ I recommend the first step be calling The FTC!”
