SMUD General Manager Affirms SMUD’s Commitment to Small Business

On Wednesday, June 7, 2006, Jan Schori, General Manager of the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), welcomed more than 140 contractors to “Make Your Contracting Connection with SMUD,” which was presented in partnership with The Federal Technology Center (The FTC). Schori stated that, “We are committed to small business. In 2005, 422 contracts worth $32.5 million were awarded to local small businesses and the goal for awards to small business has been doubled for 2006.”
Genevieve Shiroma, President of the SMUD Board of Directors, also welcomed the attendees and discussed how SMUD initiatives help create a climate conducive to providing opportunities for small business.
Other highlights of the event included a presentation by Eric Mandell, Chief of Communications and Outreach, Procurement, from the State Department of General Services (DGS), who discussed the State Small Business Certification that is recognized by SMUD; two panel discussions presented by the SMUD executive management team and the SMUD contracting team; a step-by-step class, "How To Do Business with SMUD," presented by Bill Teeple, Senior Counselor / Instructor with The FTC; and an opportunity to use the SMUD computer classroom to complete SMUD’s Vendor Registration (see www.bids.smud.org for more information).
