Regional Transit Conference Attracts Over 300 Participants
January 26, 2005
Over three hundred contractors and small businesses convened at the Sacramento Regional Transit Primes & Subcontractors Conference and Golden Spike Awards on January 26, 2005. Conference attendees had an opportunity to network and build partnerships to contract for the designing and building of Sacramento Regional Transit District’s planned light rail extensions which are expected to total more than $1 billion.
The first annual Golden Spike Awards were presented to Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBE), and other contractors who designed and built the recently completed light rail extensions into south Sacramento and Folsom. The highly successful conference and award ceremony was the result of a partnership between Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) and The Federal Technology Center (The FTC) to support RT’s small business outreach and contracting.
The event featured the RT management team discussing future
projects, as well as, larger prime contractors and DBEs who provided their insight on the keys to success for small businesses / subcontractors. Participants also networked in the exhibit area that included booths representing government agencies and contractors. Dr. Beverly Scott, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of RT, encouraged firms attending the conference to start building their prime/subcontractor partnerships now for the future major light rail expansion projects. “People do business with people they know, so networking is critical to small business growth,” stressed Scott.
Details about our next RT event in the summer of 2005 will be posted soon on our website in the "Upcoming Events" section.
