SMALL BUSINESS, BIG OPPORTUNITY Technology
Seminar 22 Businesses Attended
June 7, 2001
On
June 7, 2001, The Federal Technology Center hosted SMALL BUSINESS,
BIG OPPORTUNITY, a seminar for technology companies. Twenty-two
small businesses were present to learn more about working with
Defense Microelectronics Activity (DMEA), a federal applied engineering
lab, and its prime contractors.
The types of businesses represented at the seminar
included semiconductor, engineering, strategic technolology, environmental,
material solutions, telephone and data. Attendees came from 18
different locations in California - one as far away as Irwindale.
Two company representatives were from St. James,
New York.
During this seminar, businesses learned how DMEA works with the
commercial sector through Direct Contracts, Credit Card Purchases,
GSA Purchases, and its Advanced Technology Support Program II
(ATSP2). ATSP2 is the program DMEA uses to contract key projects
to major defense contractors. These major defense contractors,
such as Northrup Grumman, Raytheon, TRW, Inc., General Dynamics
Information Systems, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin, are required
to
subcontract a portion of the project to small businesses. The
ATSP2 Contractors discussed their requirements for subcontracting
to small businesses, and The FTC PTAC representatives taught an
Introduction to PTAC course and an "Introduction
to Federal Contracting course. These sessions were well
received by the small businesses present that day.
The day ended with a tour of the DMEA facility, including its
flexible foundry.
