32 Percent of Top-50 Defense Contractors in Sacramento Tapped Into the Free Resources of
The Federal Technology Center June 5, 2007 The Sacramento Business Journal published an article entitled, “The List,” in the April 13, 2007 issue that ranked the top 50 Department of Defense (DoD) contractors in the Greater Sacramento region, as determined by revenue earned on DoD contracts during fiscal year (FY) 2005 (October 1, 2004 through September 30, 2005). Of the 50 firms listed, 32 percent have attended classes and/or used the free counseling services offered by The Federal Technology Center (The FTC). During FY 2005, the 50 Sacramento area firms were awarded $4.3 billion in DoD contracts. Why should anyone care? Because this is big money for the Greater Sacramento tax base – by any economic measurement! It is significant to note that despite the still-recent closures of Mather and McClellan Air Force Bases and the Sacramento Army Depot so many firms in the Sacramento region are successfully doing business with the Army, Navy, Air Force, Defense Microelectronics Activity, and other Defense organizations. As these military facilities closed, the resources which had been available to assist small businesses in their efforts to contract with the DoD also departed. The FTC, which established its Procurement Assistance Program in October 2000, stepped in to fill this role. Since October 2000, The FTC has assisted over 4,600 businesses that have reported receiving in excess of 6,100 government contract awards. The Federal Technology Center is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation that promotes economic development by facilitating technology transfer between government and the private sector and by teaching small businesses how to successfully compete for government contracts. The FTC serves 54 of California’s 58 counties, providing many free government contracting courses and seminars, as well as free one-to-one counseling on any aspect of government contracting. If you would like to learn how to earn your fair share of government contract dollars, contact our experts at The FTC at 916-334-9388, or toll-free in California, at 866-382-7822, or visit us online at www.TheFTC.org. ### |
