Sacramento Regional Transit District Encourages Small Business Participation in Their Long-Term Plans

More than 260 attendees, including representatives from 160 different businesses, convened for the 4th Annual Sacramento Regional Transit Primes & Subcontractors Conference on January 17, 2008 for networking and potential partnering on upcoming RT projects for capital improvements that will total more than $1 billion. This event held at the Lions Gate Garden Pavilion, McClellan, California, was co-hosted by Sacramento Regional Transit (RT) and The Federal Technology Center (The FTC).
The attendees, which represented architect and engineering, professional services, construction, environmental, information technology, and equipment and material suppliers, offered the following comments about this conference: “Great networking opportunity,” “Great opportunity to learn about future projects,” “Insight into doing business with RT,” and “valuable contacts.”

Interim General Manager/CEO, Mike Wiley, and his executive management team provided future RT procurement plans in order to help businesses prepare to be successful in competing for contracts. Carol Bowyer, The FTC Senior Counselor/Instructor, moderated the prime and subcontractor panel that provided invaluable information on how attendees can successfully market their business and partner to compete for RT contracts.
Distinguished speakers at this popular event included Roberta MacGlashan, Chair of the RT Board of Directors and Sacramento County Board Supervisor; Assemblyman Roger Niello, Calif. 5th Assembly District; Derrin J. Jourdan, Civil Rights Officer for FTA Region IX; and Ann Blazina, Caltrans' Civil Rights.

Business Enterprise (DBE) and RT's aggressive small business outreach programs. Senior leaders from The Alliance for Business and Community, which is comprised of the Sacramento Asian-Pacific, Hispanic, and Black Chambers of Commerce, shared information about the Alliance’s objective to develop long-term mutually beneficial business relationships with RT and its members.
During the Golden Spike Awards Luncheon, RoseMary Covington, RT’s Assistant General Manager for Planning and Transit System Development, along with Alan Jones, Associate, Steer Davies Gleave, provided a very engaging presentation on the Regional Transit Master Plan, currently being designed to assist Regional Transit’s future growth and operation plans.
Mike Wiley presented the RT’s distinguished “Golden Spike Award" which recognized companies that made substantial contributions to RT's mission to provide safe, reliable, convenient, affordable, and accessible public transportation.
