The FTC Adds Eight New Counties to Service Area Effective January 1, 2005, The Federal Technology Center (The FTC) is serving small businesses in 54 of California’s 58 counties to provide government contracting assistance. The additional counties that The FTC now serves are Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, Mono, Monterey, San Benito, Stanislaus, and Tulare. The addition of the eight counties caps the expansion of The FTC’s program service area from 10 to 54 counties within the past 15 months. The FTC, designated as the statewide procurement assistance program by the Defense Logistics Agency, joins four other regional centers to help all small businesses in California navigate through the complex government procurement processes (See map below of the California Procurement Assistance Coverage Area). The FTC’s procurement assistance program provides free workshops and seminars and one-on-one counseling to help small businesses successfully compete for federal, state, and local government contracts. From October 2000 through September 2004, The FTC assisted approximately 2,300 businesses by conducting 380 classes and 5,700 counseling sessions. During this period business clients reported receiving 4,900 government contract awards, totaling $209.4 million. Based on the federal standard, these contract awards translate into over 4,900 jobs which have been created or retained in a wide variety of industries. Approximately 75 percent of the $209 million in government contract awards received by The FTC’s clients represent federal dollars which, without The FTC’s help, could have gone to businesses in other states. Small businesses interested in obtaining free government contracting assistance should contact The FTC at 916.334.9388 or visit The FTC's Upcoming Events page online.
